Get Longer, Stronger Lashes With Eyelash Extensions

Everything You Need to Know About Eyelash Extensions

Fake eyelashes give the look of fullness and length that many women want. However, applying fake lashes every day can be tedious and time consuming.

Lash extensions are the newest trend to create the beautiful, eye-defining look that you love. Here is what you need to know about this latest beauty treatment.

There are Three Types of Extensions

The style of the lash will depend on what material was used. Your lashes will be either mink, silk or synthetic. Mink tends to create the fullest look but is also the most expensive.

Lashes range in length from 6 millimeters to 17 millimeters. Each lash is applied separately, so you can decide if you want a full or half set. The length of your natural lash will determine which size is best for you.

To ensure that your natural lashes remain healthy, those with short, thin lashes will have a smaller extension. You will still get a bold look, but not as dramatic as if you started out with long, full lashes to begin with.

Do Not Fear the Application Process

A trained eyelash technician will leave you looking gorgeous in just about two hours, and it’s a soothing, relaxing experience. The lashes are applied with special glue, and you will not experience any pain during the procedure.

The semi-permanent glue is made to be safe for both your natural lashes and eyes. While it is non-irritating, some people may experience an allergic reaction. In this instance, the technician will use glue for sensitive eyes during the application process.

Remember, your eyes will be closed during the entire procedure, so there is little chance that anything will cause irritation or pain.

Maintaining Your eyeLash extensions

If properly applied by an experienced lash technician, your extensions will not damage your natural lashes, nor will they fall out before the natural lash. Pulling, rubbing or tugging can damage both the extensions and your natural lash.

Lash extensions will last as long as your natural eyelash growth. It takes about six to eight weeks for lashes to complete a full growth cycle. However, extensions are applied to individual lashes. These can begin to fall out around week three. You should schedule your touch-up every three or four weeks to ensure your application stays full and even.

You Can Apply Light Mascara

Mascara is certainly not necessary when wearing eyelash extensions. Those who enjoy the dark, bold style of mascara should apply it to their extensions sparingly. Apply a light coat to just the tip of the extension. Mascara used all the way back to the base of the extension will tend to clump. Also, avoid using pencil liner which can pull and tangle the lashes together.

Be diligent with your cleaning routine. People will often skip makeup removal because they are afraid of ruining their lashes. But, without a daily cleansing, bacteria can form and potentially lead to eye irritation. Use a gentle oil-free cleanser to keep them clean and prevent infection.

Find a Reputable Salon

When applying anything to a sensitive area such as the eye, you will want an eyelash technician who has been professionally trained. They should be licensed with the proper lash certification.

Research different salons in your area to ensure they use the latest techniques. Inspect the shop for cleanliness. Ask the technician how long they have been applying lash extensions and how many clients they have worked on. Lastly, ask to see before-and-after pictures of recent clients. Do your homework to find a salon that you will be comfortable going to.
