Whether you’re off to a music festival or just want to get your locks out of your face, a cute up-do is the best way to style your hair for summer.
But we know that some styles can not only be incredibly time-consuming but can also seem downright impossible, so we’ve found some of our favourite foolproof summer hairdos for all the hair beginners out there.
The High Ponytail
An ultra high ponytail is both glam and practical with not a single strand out of place. Perfect for hot days and by the swimming pool, the aim is to pull the hair back as high as possible, whilst keeping things sleek and straight.
Follow your cheekbone line for some guidance and tilt your head back to secure the pony. Wrap an additional section of hair around to hide the hairband and keep things looking Hollywood.
The Twisted Bun
There’s no better way to get your hair out of your face than by sticking it all up in a bun, the perfect summer solution. Work from both sides of your head to roll back your hair and twist it, adding in more hair as you go from the nape. The twists will add both volume and texture.
Have plenty of hairpins at the ready but don’t bother too much about making it neat, the twisted bun works well with imperfections.
The Knotted Ponytail
Whilst you can’t go wrong with a classic pony, sometimes it’s fun to switch things up a bit and give it a fresh new twist. The knotted ponytail is the perfect way to add texture to your hair and reinvigorate an old classic.
This style works best on second day hair where you have some natural grip, or instead just spritz it with some texturizing spray. Make the knot loose, using hairspray to hold it in place.
The Fishtail Side Braid
Fishtail braids can take a bit of practice but are one of the easier braid patterns to master. The best thing about the fishtail is that the messier it is the better, so you don’t have to worry about being too precise.
Simply divide your hair into two and move a small section on one side over to the other, and repeat. Throwing your braid to one side is an effortlessly cool way to style your hair, and you can even trying adding flower grips to the braid for a boho festival feel.
The Space Buns
The space buns were everywhere in 2016 and we have no doubt that they’ll be even bigger in summer 2017. This Princess Leia-esque up-do is both fun, practical and deceptively easy to do.
Separate your hair into two and secure as two pigtails. Twist the pigtails until they coil and secure with some hairpins. Keep them crisp and sleek or ruffled for a more relaxed style, the choice is yours!
The Halo Braid
Halo braids are girly and cute and the perfect option for a summer festival. With a little practice you can achieve the look in no time, in fact the messier the braids the better.
There’s so much variety with a halo braid as you can make them thin, chunky with either Dutch, French or Fishtail braids. Pull out additional hair at the sides and underneath for an even more whimsical feel.
The Half Up Half Down Look
Perfect for both short and long hair, this half up half down look is quick and effortless. Whether you’re going for a bun on top or an extra pony, the half way look adds texture and definition.
Spritz your hair with sea salt spray for even more texture and style. If you have thick hair you’re going to just love this style.
The Messy Top Knot
When frizz as at its prime in the midday sun then what better way to combat it than to embrace it completely! Make things as messy as possible with the classic top knot, pulling out as much as possible for that effortless style.
There’s no wrong or right way to master the top knot, you can keep things low or high depending on your preference. If you have fine hair consider adding a doughnut for volume.
